About Reinhard  Heinisch
Reinhard Heinisch is Professor of Austrian Politics in Comparative European Perspective and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Salzburg.

He received his degrees from the Universities of Vienna (BA equivalent 1986), Virginia Tech (MA 1989), and Michigan State (PhD 1994). Subsequently, he served as Professor of Political Science with the University of Pittsburgh (1994-2009).

He is the author of Populism, Proporz and Pariah: Austria Turns Right (2002) as well as of numerous peer-reviewed publications.

Reinhard Heinisch has lectured extensively internationally and served as a consultant to the US Department of State. In his teaching, he has focused generally on comparative government with an emphasis on Europe, Latin America and the United States and has commented about the US in the Austrian media and in US media about Austria.

He currently teaches courses on comparative labour market policies, the welfare state, populism, and Austria in the context of European integration. His main area of work includes comparative populism, populist incumbency, as well as research on corporatism under conditions of integration and internationalisation.
