About Soetkin  Verhaegen
Soetkin Verhaegen is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Political Science, Stockholm University. She is part of the LegGov – Legitimacy in Global Governance – research team. Additionally, she is affiliated to the Centre for Political Research at KU Leuven, where she obtained her PhD in 2015 for her dissertation on the development of European identity. Previously, Soetkin was visiting scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She has also been a scientific advisor at Karel de Grote Hogeschool and she was a civic education teacher for Europe House Ryckevelde.

Soetkin’s research focuses on public opinion about international and regional organisations. Hence, her work is situated at the crossroads of political sociology and international relations. Currently, she studies sources of legitimacy of global governance institutions among the general public and elites, and the role of European identity as an explanation for citizens’ political orientations and behaviour towards the EU.

Other research interests include youth, socialisation and political participation.

At the Department of Political Science, Soetkin teaches courses on European Politics and Comparative Politics.
